Our daughter Zoya has been part of Heart Learning Centre for many years and it has been wonderful watching her develop academically, emotionally and physically through the great programs they have offered. What we also like is the sense of belonging that has been created by the staff who work really hard to make everyone feel welcome and part of the Heart Learning Centre community.

Heart Learning Centre is a fantastic after school program, my son Leo(6) loves going there. The program offers fun and innovative ways of learning both academically and emotionally. Leo enjoys talking about all the things he's learned at the centre and often applies them to his everyday thoughts & actions. He has developed some great friendships we hope will last throughout his school years. Heart Learning Centre offers great after school academic support and as a working parent there is real value in being able to pick up your child at the end of the day knowing his homework is completed and his spirit has been nurtured.

Academic
Excellence
Our academic program runs from 3:30-6pm to help students complete and understand their homework assignments in French or English. After having completed their school homework, we challenge students with our enhanced curriculum to give them a boost in core subjects including but not limited to math, language and science.
Students are guided to learn at their own pace and we work with parents or guardians to help every student reach their full potential. Every child can learn, just not in the same way or the same day. Students learn to appreciate each other and improve their marks in all subjects. Students are excited about new possibilities of learning, which builds their self-confidence and perception. This greatly helps them when they return to school each day.
Assessment and Evaluation: Although we only operate for less than 3 hours per day, student evaluation is very important to us to support our students as they progress with us. Twice per year Heart Learning Centre holds assessment nights where teachers, parents, and students get together to discuss the student's progress and work as a team in to establish growth, understanding and support.
Other Academic Activities include: Wild Goose Spelling Chase, Math Chase, Science Days and Debates

Emotional
Intelligence
Twice Per Week
Drop in Welcome for $30 per week
“Emotional Intelligence is a different way of being smart. It includes knowing what your feelings are and using your feeling to make good decisions in life. It’s being able to manage distressing moods well and control impulse. It is being motivated and remaining hopeful and optimistic when you have setbacks in working toward goals. It is empathy; knowing what the people around you are feeling. And it is social skills getting along well with other people, managing emotions in relationships being able to persuade or lead others.” John O’Neil.
People who are emotionally healthy are in control of their emotions and their behaviour. They are able to handle life’s inevitable challenges, build strong relationships, and lead productive, fulfilling lives. When bad things happen, they’re able to bounce back and move on. Why not teach people at a young age in order to be ready for the day-to-day events of life? We do!
During our Flying V time, students participate in twice-weekly social discussions of daily experiences about school, family and community. Topics include: integrity, commitment, love, problem-solving, and how to face the world with strength and self-confidence. This program is about developing positive habits and ways of thinking to encourage students to become leaders in their own communities. It is our promise for their future.
Students learn to respect individuals regardless of their age, gender or ability. Our commitment is to foster the improvement of our community, our country and the world through the development of dynamic and helpful citizens.

Mini
Economy
Daily
Here at Heart Learning Centre we prepare and educate our students for the free enterprise system. Upon enrollment at our wonderful centre: each student is given a ‘job’ and ‘earns money’. Our programs focus on work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy, and teach young people important skills to help them become economically empowered. Heart Learning Centre students learn how to start and grow a business, how to successfully contribute in the workplace, and how to effectively manage the money they earn. Our mini-economy program also helps prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action and learn the value of contributing to their communities.
In schools, the main problem with personal finance education is the lack of classes, not that kids already know the information or that the skills are too complex for children to understand. Children should be taught how to manage a budget, the importance of saving money for future goals, and the consequences of overspending. To us, its just common sense!
This is so much fun!!
Students here at Heart Learning Centre as young as five years old participate in our mini-economy, which acts as an effective means of teaching important economic principles and life skills. Students choose a “job”, figure out what their taxes are and get bi-weekly pay cheques. Students earn and record debit and credits in their ledgers. Once a month, students are provided the opportunity to reap the benefits of their hard work by shopping at the Heart Learning Centre “store”. Students really enjoy it, and parents always comment on how surprised they are by how much financial knowledge their kids can handle!
Athletic Programs
The Heart Learning Centre athletic program promotes student participation across a wide range of individual and team activities, focusing on fair play, participation, sportsmanship, skill-development, and fun. We believe that sports promote many positive qualities and always strive to keep those qualities as a focus for our programs. Activities included in the program include soccer, hockey, t-ball, and track and field.

From the moment I walked into Heart Learning Centre I noticed how calm and comfortable the children were there. They all seemed so relaxed and content which I think is a great reflection of the program and the staff. The children at Heart Learning Centre are some of the most well-behaved, well-adjusted and happy children I have ever worked with. It was clear to me right off the bat that the children at Heart Learning Centre love the time they spend there and view it almost as a second home. What more could you ask for in an after-school program?
